Today the site’s tagline “or so the plan says” proved apt and gave a wonderful example of the unpredictability of this trip. My sister, who is 2 years older than me, has decided that she is going to join me for the North American leg of the trip. This isn’t quite a spur of the moment decision, I’ve known it’s been in her mind for a little while, but still it’s a big change.
First and foremost, I’m glad that she’s decided to come, it’s
For the first time in a good while I’ve not bought anything online today! Over the last 10 days I’ve bought 34 items and only had to send one back for a refund. Instead of shopping I decided to go out for a short ride today.
I had a few reasons to go out
- Break my saddle in a bit and ensure things are positioned correctly,
- See if I’d put my GPS mount on properly,
- Buy something to attach my rear light to my rack,
- Get the phone I’m considering taking unlocked so I can try it out
Overall the ride was enjoyable but not too successful. The guy who I asked to unlock my phone told me if I come back next week he should be able to do it, my GPS mount seems OK but a little noisy, saddle is.. maybe OK but I’m really
I have a Garmin GPS that I will be bringing with me on the trip. It records gps data whenever it is on and so today I went for the first ride on my new shiny Thorn. Here’s the result
The bike felt good but my saddle is going to take a bit of getting used to. It’s so slippy at the minute and I think I need to move it back a little. Will adjust it and go for another ride tomorrow.
Today’s purchases – Deodorant and a compass.
Since my last entry 2 days ago things have started coming together a bit faster than I was expecting. After deciding on and ordering a tent I headed out for the day with my dad. Just before heading home I realised that there was a cheap bike shop near by. 30 minutes later and 4 more things were knocked off my to-buy list as I gave more money to Ortlieb and picked up some footwear too. It’s going to be good to get on the road if for nothing else than to stop having my bank haemorrhaging
The website. An almost essential part of any journey is to document it. Especially for people like myself who have a terrible memory, something like this is great so in a few years I can look back and see what I was thinking. It’s also a much more convenient way to keep my family, friends and followers up to date with my latest adventures. Crucial for when I’m in places where I’ll have very limited internet and spending 2 minutes writing a post makes more sense than sending out
