Since my last entry 2 days ago things have started coming together a bit faster than I was expecting. After deciding on and ordering a tent I headed out for the day with my dad. Just before heading home I realised that there was a cheap bike shop near by. 30 minutes later and 4 more things were knocked off my to-buy list as I gave more money to Ortlieb and picked up some footwear too.┬áIt’s going to be good to get on the road if for nothing else than to stop having my bank haemorrhaging so much.

The other news is that having initially been told that my bike would take 3-4 weeks after ordering it on Feb 28th it turned up today much to my amazement. I’m not sure if it’s possible to say enough positive things about the people at Thorn Cycles who built and made the bike to my desired specification. When I went down to the shop for the appointment they said it’d be about an hour, 4 hours later having tried out a Thorn Nomad and having asked a ridiculous number of questions ranging from the useful to the pointless I walked out the door knowing a lot more than I had done previously about my bike to be.

I didn’t actually get to ride the bike today. The only thing that needed to be done to the bike was to straighten the handlebars, but after a search it turned out that we didn’t have the right sized hex key. That meant I got time to learn how to put up my tent and with some help from my mum I now have a basic understanding although I’ll be putting in some practice before I go so I can throw the thing up a lot faster. I’ll have another look for the hex key and if it can’t be found I’ll nip up to Sandbach tomorrow to buy one at Homebase and then it’s time to start breaking the Brooks saddle in!
