Bishop -> Furnace Creek

Sophie was up around 6 and then meant to leave between 7 and 7:30 but she had so many fun stories that she was eager to share that we kept talking to her and she didn’t end up leaving until past 8. Sorry! After she left we finished our packing and worked out our plan for the day. Our schedule had us needing to get to Panamint Springs at the entrance to Death Valley, the problem was that it was 105 miles away. We had done a century back in South Dakota, but we weren’t acclimatised to

We rolled out of bed to find John & Doris in the kitchen organising breakfast. Ross & Chris joined us and the 6 of us sat down for a breakfast of oatmeal, maple syrup, homemade yoghurt and bananas. Ross & Chris don’t have any deadlines, so decided to only ride the 30 miles to Mammoth Lakes. It had been fun riding with them and if I didn’t have to get to St George on the 19th we may well have ridden with them. As it is, I’m excited to get to St George to hang out

Having got minimal sleep, neither C nor I were really that energetic in the morning. The rain had stopped and the sky was clear which was great, except it meant that it was cold and my hands turned quite icy while taking my tent down. We were up around and out of our tents at around 7:30 to find that Ross & Chris had already left. C had spotted that the nearby lodge had a buffet breakfast and so we had arranged to go there with them. We took our tents down and headed over to the buffet. We got there at about 8am and didn’t leave until 10am. Ross & Chris were both slightly horrified with the amount of food we consumed. Even though they had got there around 7:30, we managed more than they did. It was a little

A light knock from Laura on my bedroom door woke me up, she let me know it was 6:10. We were planning on rolling out around 6:30 and it reminded me of my mum waking me up before going on family holidays as a kid. I did a much better job at getting up than I used to do and finished packing things away before taking them downstairs where I found a cup of coffee waiting. It was just more proof of how amazing a host she is. We had arrived in SF 6 days earlier with the idea of staying for 2 or 3 days
