I woke up feeling much better for my rest day. I made sure that I got my suntan lotion on even though when I headed out it was pre-dawn. I’d learnt my lessons from the previous days and didn’t really want to get sunstroke again.
Heading to Veracruz meant that I had an easy day coasting down to sea level. I got out of town, and most of the way to the toll road before the sun came up. Having been in Mexico City for the previous three months I’d got used to the very English weather and so the much warmer climate, and especially the humidity, were a not thoroughly welcome change. Thankfully with such a short day, I’d made it to Veracruz and met my host Jorge Luis before it got too hot.
I spent the afternoon with Jorge Luis and his friend Miguel (Milk) getting shown round Veracruz. In the evening we met up with another couchsurfer, a Japanese girl called Miru. It turned out that she was also studying Spanish at UNAM, but cos she has classes in the afternoon rather than the morning our paths had never crossed.
Hanging out with Miru & Jorge Luis for the day.
